Style’s Week is a weekly news digest covering shopping and online trends. I lowered the monthly rate of this newsletter to $5/month, $45/year. If you want to try out a paid subscription, for the first 3 months you can ask to be comped on the house.
Hello. Happy New Year!
I hope your mid-decade year is off to a good start. Get ready for an action-packed first month of 2025 (and the return of Melania Trump). I wonder what—err—coats she’s got in-store.
Yesterday I sent you a roundup of 7 fragrances to shop this year. 2024 was a banger year for the perfume industry, especially amongst teenagers, and this year it’s bound to heat up. At their core, perfumes are personal—and people want to smell good and feel good.
Vogue Business notes, “the fragrance category is evolving from a surface-level spritz to something entwined with health and wellness. If brands fuse scent with wellness and related health data, it can unlock a new level of growth”. I’ll be developing this story throughout the year.
The menswear shows will kick-off this month in Florence with Pitti Uomo (14-17 Jan.), and Paris (21-26 Jan.), followed by the Paris couture (27-30 Jan.).
This season, the Paris couture seems to be running light—a lot of notable editors are skipping it all together. Still, the street style will be fun to watch. I’ll be sending my favorite looks with shoppable links.

I, for one, would be excited to see a change of creative direction at Christian Dior. I tend to agree with YouTuber’s and social media on this one—we’ve seen enough ballerina full-length skirts and t-shirts to last us a few seasons. Puck’s Lauren Sherman reported that 2024 was not an easy year for Delphine Arnault, CEO of Dior.
The brand could use a renewed sense of relevancy.
Whatever the atelier cooks up at Chanel will be to build up Matthieu Blazy’s arrival. The big question hovering over the week will be whether Alessandro Michele pushes himself out of his comfort zone at Valentino. And whether Ludovic de Saint Sernin as guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier will innovate his career forward. His skimpy designs never really screamed red carpet, perhaps now they will.
For the men’s shows, Willy Chavarria is bringing his label to Paris—that’s going to be really exciting to watch. With the Met Gala being men’s themed this year, I’ll be on the lookout for tailoring and diversity at Pitti Uomo.

I’ve been reading a lot of IN and OUT lists over the week. I reflected on mine.
IN: patience, workout classes & running, print magazines, suit looks, fragrance, messenger bags, hotels, concerts, Vince, The Devil Wears Prada 2, breakfast.
HOLD: The Gap, brunch, Tory Burch, white and black dressing, Carhartt, Altoids mints, Sebago’s.
OUT: doom scrolling, beer, sliders (the sandal, not the tiny burgers), slob culture, TikTok, The Row’s sameness, blue eyeshadow from the 1980s, Maria Grazia Chiuri.
