Field Notes
Hello everyone, this is the last post of the Field Notes series. With this letter, fashion month is officially over. To bid adieu to the catwalk, I took stock of where the season goes next—and what’s great right now clothing wise. Turns out, we’re in a groundbreaking mood—sans the flowers.
Inside this edit, there are six mini-catalogs with spring pieces to shop. They’re built to transition seamlessly into the fall and beyond. Menswear is well represented, too. The daytime look of the moment channels an instinct to get outside—and it’s rooted in the spirit of the hunt. See you at Eleven Madison Park! Long boots carried over from last season to this month’s shows, making it official: 2025 is the year of the tall boot.
I poured over market reports and visited Burberry to conclude that the trench was the coat of the moment. I spotted one particularly spiffy guy wearing a white trench that had a belted waist and storm flap that sealed the deal. Toteme has a crisp version that will run the gamut until November.
Quiet luxury as a trend may be over, but styling cues from The Row remain as hot as ever. For Low-Key Layering, I pulled together current and next-season styling photos from The Row to create a mini-catalog about pulling casuals together—plus a lineup of coats worth considering.
Sorting through literally hundreds of garments, I was surprised J.Crew didn’t come out stronger in the edit. The pieces are good, but they’re missing a certain je ne sais quoi. Nostalgia alone didn’t cut it.
Finally, there’s a countryside-meets-Parisian-chic vibe—channeled best by Loewe and Saint Laurent at the collections. Yellow is our color of the month. And as for the boots? The skyscraper-high riding boot is back, whether you’re leaning country or conquering the city. The ball’s in your court.
Morning Hunt Garb

Loro Piana is Italy’s best-kept secret for daytime dressing. This spring, the morning hunt look is in—starting with the hat. Alex Mill nails the Field and Chore jacket, offering the best value for layering. Le Chameau’s durable mud wellies work in both the countryside and the city. Stay cool with Abercrombie’s denim work shirt. Style with Ray-Ban Wayfarers and Tod’s thick-soled desert boot.
Skyscraper Boots

This season, shop for boots as high as the Manhattan skyline. Smooth black leather is the calling card of the moment, a favorite among attendees at the shows. What’s great about it? Over time, it patinas beautifully, giving the piece a lived-in feel. You can adapt the texture to your style or go full western. The best selections are waiting for you at Bergdorf Goodman’s 5th Floor shoe department.
The Vintage-Feel Trench

Trenches make for practically elegant moments. The key to the look is elevating the traditional trench with the best details: a belt, a front flap for breathability, a back storm cape, and wrist fasteners. In the spirit of practicality, gentlemen, don’t forget about the power of a Filson bag to store a spray of Jardin sur le Nil by Hermès.
The Color Yellow

The season’s florals-for-spring mantra has been reimagined as the fisherman vibe. The yellow parka is the only highlighter color you need. Pair it with stripes, a cocktail dress, or a handsome suit—this look is all hands on deck.
Low-Key Layering

One of my favorite (if not my favorite) ways to dress this spring is a simple t-shirt and jeans. The double t-shirt layering trick by The Row? Definitely one for the archives. And of course, don’t forget the flip-flops!
Drop-Waist Dressing

For the last day of Paris Fashion Week, only a season after sending strict suits down the runway, Anthony Vaccarello instinctively clapped back at boyish dressing with a bevvy of drop-waist dresses. The vibe? Chanel throws a ball at a chic countryside barn or a fabulous palace in Paris. It feels especially timely that the 1920s tennis tank dress is back—it’s sporty, with a Charles James twist to meet the moment.
