An Inside Look Colman Domingo’s Room at the Carlyle
I got my hands on the moodboard behind Colman Domingo’s Met Gala look, inside the dressing ceremony (with Valentino tailors), notes of the clothing rack, and headlines from the Met Gala.

So what did you think? Did the stylists hit it out of the park?
I watched
’s live alongside Vogue for much of the evening, with tabs open on the NYT and Substack websites. I’m used to working with 3 screens at my day job, without counting my phone. The ante was up. I will be writing about how big media is gamifying the red carpet later this week. Hit me up if you have thoughts.Overall I liked the red carpet! Some of the celebs that usually go big went a little tame (Zendaya, the KarJenners, and Lana Del Rey, who revendicated herself from last year’s disastrous tree look in Valentino). Other celebs definitely got the message from Melania Trump to go full Zorro with their hats—see Kim Kardashian). I was surprised there wasn’t more Saint Laurent, given the push on suiting in recent collections, save for Hailey Bieber who went full Parisienne. There were almost more Louis Vuitton looks than I can handle. LVMH even threw in a Rimowa crossbody bag on Spike Lee for good measure. And LV stockings were everywhere. Benito “Bad Bunny” wore Prada, bowling bag in tow. He looked good.
There was drama in the glove department. A lot of people wore gloves, while it can seem like a good idea, I find it’s also a lot of fuss in the spring, making some looks feel a little stuffy. Bare hands are sexy!

To answer yesterday’s question, minimalism was officially out! Below the paywall: an exclusive look behind Colman Domingo’s dressing ceremony, pictures from his hotel room at the Carlyle, my notes on what was in the clothing rack (with shopping links), and what Wayman + Micah, his stylists, had pinned on the moodboard. Shout out to Pinterest for sending me the photos.
As a former styling assistant, PR intern, and advertising executive turned writer, I really appreciate it. 😊
Boucheron’s Serpent Bohème Solarité collection radiates energy. On these asymmetrical stud earrings, rays of yellow gold and diamonds take the collection, born in 1968, to a new dimension.
