Plus: Cosplaying Pitbull, the comeback of the fashion catalog, and the loafer takeover.

Hello everyone, I’ve been keeping busy handling the PR side of things for Style Beat. As this little newsletter grows, I’ll be bringing you more fashion week coverage.
In 2 weeks, I’ll be hitting the concrete sidewalks in Paris to bring you menswear week news. I’ve got about 3 shows confirmed so far, and my agenda is filling up.
If you have a scoop or want shoot me an invite to your Paris menswear event, you can reach me directly at kevin925r@gmail.com.
There is a Vinny’s sale today. If you need loafers—here’s the link. I really liked this pair of BELGEE venetian shoes.
Before cutting to today’s feature, I wanted to roundup some stories in the press I’ve been gravitating to.
Concert Circuit Dressing: The latest trend catching the internet by storm isn’t a second wave of preppy. Instead, it’s the concert circuit making headlines. First there was Beyoncé world tour dressing. Now the latest craze is cosplaying Pitbull from Miami. Here’s the story from the NYT. How to get the look? Black trousers, white dress shirt, black tie, black blazer, black dress shoes, and sunglasses. While it can feel a little Parisian bistro server, it also looks like a lot of fun. And when it comes to having fun in your clothes, I’m all for it.
Is the fashion catalogue making a comeback? In an online world, catalogues seemed like a relic from the past. But a brave new world of marketers is making a push for a paper-backed future. Stylists rejoice! It’s a bit of a fresh air of perspective from another Instagram reel.
The Loafer Takeover: Harper’s Bazaar has a really good story out on loafers, the polished alternative to flip-flops.
Here’s the thing: if you’re thinking about nailing down summer style, consider the flip-flop and the loafer (here is a Loewe pair) as 2 staples to fill in the 5-day workweek. A monk shoe (this distressed Church’s one is to die for) that reads poet in the city is great for Wednesday. This Pedro Garcia black leather boot with a harness for a statement power look. And these Manolo Blahnik kitten heels for Friday night cocktails in TriBeCa or the Paris left-bank.

What Caught My Eye is a daily column about internet culture, people you should know about, business, shopping, and fashion.
As an online editor, I am on a never ending search for things that catch my eye. A collage that is so well made it deserves an entire column about it, a new brand that’s breaking through the contemporary, a voice with a strong opinion and conviction, and pieces that are culturally relevant and whose price point is unmatchable.
Maybe the Pinterest bug has finally bit me, but I’ve been really enjoying seeing how people put together their universes online. Something about the everyday chaos seems organized and distilled on Pinterest. By the way this is not an ad, I am just copywriting for the sake of fun.
When things are chaotic, it serves me to peer into the universes of others. I’ve been noticing how much graphic designers pay attention to shadows in their compositions. I’ve even noticed that AI generated images, as they get more powerful, are increasingly incorporating shadows into their images.
Isn’t that insane? Now in order to identify a fake from a real picture, it’s not enough to check if there are shadows or not in the picture composition. Now it’s about how it converges on the image.
The line has changed.
I think why the hype around 80s and 90s print that has been the subject of obsession amongst internet culture is due to this very notion. Since the dot-com bubble burst at the dawn the new millennium, picture changed forever. It had to. The way we experienced film, produced a story, and gathered data upended.
As lovely as the new AI-generated moodboards that could drive a Mattel corporate suit to their beach house in Malibu are, it’s hard to capture the nuance of an overcast sky, the rust of painted iron, or the flicker of hair that make a pose organic.
Perhaps what draws me to Pinterest is that both worlds collide in one platform, or rather, the messy forgotten inky recipe box that it is.
